Making Kyiv better! Lecture on street design held at International EXPOFORUM “Building. Architecture. Real Estate” in Kyiv

Today at 13:00 at the territory of Design Innovation Zone the lecture of Anna Bondar, acting deputy head of Department of City Construction and Architecture of Kyiv, was presented. The speaker presented the concept of complex area beautification “Comfort city” to everyone present in the hall. The first guide on street design became an integral part of the concept. For about one year, employees of the Department, as well as specialists, public activists, experts had been working on it.

Anna Bondar underlined that activity and positive thinking of the city inhabitants were very important for municipal improvement. Setting the concept of “Comfort city” implied creation of the Kyiv standard, and the first step in achieving it was publishing the guide on street design; formation of unified legal grounds, procedures like permissions for installation/erection of buildings in the city; implementation of translucent market mechanisms; improvement of the system of control and responsibility; agenda.

For creation of the street design guide, over 100 similar guides from large and small cities of Europe and America had been studied. The present problems were defined for city public space, as well as principles and bases for city area architects, state authorities and local business to use.

Everyone willing to familiarize with the guide and ask questions concerning improvement of city streets, their design prospects etc., had a chance that during the event.
